How Main Press Wire publishes press releases, and what readers can and cannot take from them.
What a release on MPW is
Every item on Main Press Wire is a press release: an announcement written and supplied by the person or organization named as its source. It is labeled "Press release" at the top, names its source, and ends with a disclosure box. MPW does not rewrite releases into news stories or present them as independent journalism.
Features
Main Press Wire also publishes original features written by its editor, such as articles on Las Vegas nightlife, entertainment, nonprofits and churches. Features are labeled "Feature", carry the writer's byline, and are not paid for or supplied by the people or organizations in them. Quotes in features come from real interviews, and facts are sourced.
The front page
The editor chooses which releases and features appear on the front page, based on news value for Las Vegas readers. Items placed there are marked "Front page", and any relationship between MPW and the issuer is disclosed on the item itself.
What MPW checks
- That the issuer is who they say they are, and can be reached through the media contact listed.
- That links in the release work and lead to the issuer's own sites or official profiles.
- That the release does not claim awards, deals, press coverage or partnerships the issuer cannot back up. Statements about talks or negotiations must say that nothing is final.
- That figures such as views, followers or sales are attributed to the issuer ("according to analytics shared by…").
MPW does not independently audit an issuer's analytics or business figures. Readers and journalists should confirm important facts with the media contact.
Disclosure
If the editor or MPW has any personal, business or technical relationship with an issuer, it is disclosed on the release. Main Press Wire's website was built, and its domain and hosting are currently provided, by Geeked Out Labs, the studio of Zane Deep, at no charge. In exchange, Main Press Wire distributes releases about Zane Deep and his client EvilJay at no charge.
Corrections
If a release contains an error, contact the editor at 725-318-1555 or news@mainpresswire.com. Corrections are made on the release page with a dated note at the bottom saying what changed.
Removal
Releases stay online as a permanent record. An issuer may ask for a release to be withdrawn; it is then replaced with a short notice saying it was withdrawn and when.
